Cerec and Its Use in Cosmetic Dentistry

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009
IC recently asked:

Technology has visibly changed everything around us, cosmetic dentistry is not an exception, today we are going to analyze a system used for restorations, this system is called CEREC, this term stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetics Ceramics. Dental restoration used to be extremely difficult due to the fact that most of the restoration work was pretty inaccurate and every calculation was done using instruments which might not have been the best for the job, this is where technology has changed everything, using the CEREC technology dentists are able to create crowns and veneers with amazing precision.

CEREC technology uses 3-D imaging, CAD, CAM and other proprietary software in order to determine the dimensions of each dental replacement. The following are some of the advantages of using CEREC in cosmetic dentistry:

Duration of the procedure:

Using this technology patients are in need of crown or veneer replacements can have the entire procedure done in just one visit, cosmetic dentists who don’t use this technology will usually end up wasting time because they need to measure the replacements in order to create new ones, this is something that can’t be done in just one day without the use of technology.

Decreased discomfort and pain:

Due to the effectiveness of this technology the amount of injections and drilling is reduced to a minimum, in just one sitting a cosmetic dentist is able to get all the information needed to create replacements without putting the patient through any discomfort.

Materials used in replacements:

Once the replacements have been measured the creation and veneers and crowns is very easy and fast, automatic machines are able to create top-quality and custom-made replacements using the best materials available today such as ceramic, porcelain and other composite resins in virtually no time.

The CEREC technology is so efficient that after a patient’s mouth has been scanned, the data gathered is analyzed by a computer, processed and finally a machine is able to create the replacements within four to 20 minutes instead of having to wait several days to have the work done, this is precisely the reason why they use of this technology has been widely accepted by cosmetic dentists across the globe.

Look Up Procedures on Cosmetic Dentistry in Wirral

Friday, July 10th, 2009
Johnathan Brook recently asked:

When you are searching for professionals who are practicing cosmetic dentistry in Wirral, there are two effective ways to do this. First, you will be able to locate a dentist when you are living within the area. On the other hand, you can turn to the Internet which is the more convenient option. When you choose to find dentists over the web, you will be provided with a long list of cosmetic dentists. The great thing about doing your search online is that you will be provided with a background information on each of the professionals. This is something which you will seldom get when you search through the traditional method, which is flipping through directory pages.

The cosmetic dentistry in Wirral make sure that your dental needs are catered to properly. Dental professionals provide you with cosmetic services such as dental implants, Invisalign braces, teeth whitening, veneers, and cerec replacement. There are also advanced surgical implant procedures like sinus lifts and bone grafting. Through dental veneers, you will be able to turn your shy smile to dazzling white. Veneers are also appropriate for you when you want to cover up the gaps between your teeth. If you have crooked teeth, you can straighten them out with Invisalign braces. These are clear and comfortable aligners which you can remove from your mouth easily. The great difference of this new dental treatment is the opportunity to avoid mouth irritation which is usually caused by metal or wire braces.

Another common cosmetic dentistry procedure which is offered at Wirral is endodontics. This is a dental treatment which clears out the root canals of your teeth. To be more specific, the therapy of endodontics refers to the removal of infection from your infected teeth. The therapy is done within the root canals. Through this treatment, you will be able to make sure that you won’t be experiencing toothaches anymore. To assure you that the process will not be painful, your gums will be applied with local anesthesia.

Another common dental treatment is implants. When you are searching for dentists on Liverpool dental implants, you can also do your search over the Internet. Dental implants is considered as among the latest development within the dental technology. This procedure is suitable for you when you have missing teeth and you want to fill out the gap. Dental implant is also appropriate for you when you want to secure your loose denture. In order for you to make sure that the process is not that painful, find dentists who are experts with this type of treatment.

Liverpool dental implants are done without ruining your existing natural teeth. The end result of this cosmetic procedure is admirable, enabling patients to gain more confidence. In order for the implant to work well, the dentist will set up a socket. This will accommodate the implant which fuses with your jawbone as time passes. After the first procedure, the dental implant is prepared for restoration. This will allow the proper placement of the bridge, denture, or crown. When you choose this type of cosmetic dental procedure, you will be able to smile confidently.

Endodontics and Its Application in Cosmetic Dentistry

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009
IC recently asked:

When people talk about endodontics they usually link to this particular treatment to a painful experience, this used to be the case before technology stepped in, the most common procedure done in endodontics is the root canal. These steps involved in with developed therapy require that dentists to make incisions in the affected tooth in order to eliminate infections which have reached the pulp.

The word endodontics comes from the Greek “endo” which means inside and “odons” which means tooth, in cosmetic dentistry the use of endodontics is required if the decay of a tooth is quite severe in other words, if the decay has gone from the enamel to the dentin and ultimately into the pulp conventional cosmetic dentistry procedures may need to be pushed back until this therapy is complete. Teeth which have decayed and have developed a darker dentin should be treated before any cosmetic procedure is done.

If the pulp of the tooth becomes infected then root canal therapy is required, in order to prevent future outbreaks and infections qualified dentists use laser technology in order to disinfect the area and eliminate bacteria, then the area is filled and sealed. This procedure effectively prevents complications at the root and pulp level.

While many general dentists prefer to refer such procedures to specialized dentists in the field, most general dentists are qualified to perform general endodontics work, this is also the reason why most root canals are performed by general dentists.

Other procedures which are also done through endodontics are drainage and internal tooth bleaching, as previously described this procedure is done to patients whose teeth have darkened due to decay of the dentin or any other soft tissue.

Even though the root of the procedure is relatively painless when done properly most people will usually refer to it according to its general stereotype which is but one of extremely painful operation. Regardless of the many stereotypes this operation may be tagged with it is a necessary step in order to prevent serious infections and future complications which may become truly painful.

Cosmetic Dentistry – Appreciated at Its True Value

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009
Ron Mark recently asked:

As we all now, our appearance is very important these days. People are quite concerned with how they look. It is a very competitive society. Words like teeth whitening and cosmetic dentistry are part of our daily vocabulary. The whitening procedure is used by almost everybody. People consider it simple and effective. At the same time, they are glad that this option has become available for everyone, not only for famous public persons. The good news is that this field is getting more and more advanced every day allowing everyone to obtain the perfect smile easier and faster.

Cosmetic dentistry is mostly performed by a doctor, but, considering the fact that the operation of bleaching teeth is very simple, it can be done at home. Nevertheless, there are some advantages in doing this procedure in the doctor’s office because it allows the patient to be supervised by a professional more closely.

So, to remove stains and discoloration, thus lightening the teeth, one has to choose bleaching. There are two main types of teeth whitening procedures: the non-vital whitening, which means that the tooth no longer has a live nerve, and the vital whitening procedure, that is done on teeth that have live nerves. One other important characteristic is the fact that this procedure is not permanent.

Teeth whitening implies the doctor or yourself will first apply a special gel for the gums to protect them from the whitening agent and, then, apply the agent on your teeth. In office procedures usually take about 30 to 90 minutes. They can require more appointments depending on the type of discoloration of the teeth. Besides whitening gel, one can choose to use whitening toothpaste, bleaching strips, bleaching gel with a fitted mouth tray, or laser bleaching. Laser bleaching is sometimes called in-office bleaching and it is rarely recommended.

It is important to mention that pregnant women and children under 16 years old are not allowed to have this procedure of teeth whitening. People with sensitive teeth and allergies to whitening products are also advised to avoid getting their teeth bleached.

It has to be said that there are people with unrealistic expectations, who think that teeth whitening is not efficient. Those individuals have darkly stained teeth, they are smokers and they expect to have teeth of blinding white after the procedure is done. They have to understand that any bleaching procedure will be less successful in these circumstances.

For a long time in cosmetic dentistry the tooth veneers, which are thin pieces of porcelain glued to the front of the teeth, were the only alternative. They were the solution for teeth that are severely discolored, chipped or misshapen. And it has been proven that tooth veneers are very difficult to stain.

The new fashion in cosmetic dentistry is the use of lumineers and the reason for which they have replaced the regular veneers is the fact that they are super thin and can be placed on your teeth without all the drilling and work associated with standard porcelain veneers.

Cosmetic dentistry is considered as a life changing factor and that is true, if we realize the fact that you can make your smile brighter and more charming. From stained teeth to a crooked smile, it can turn any frown upside down. The term itself has come to mean a lot of things. That is because there are many procedures performed in and out of the dental office that come under the heading of cosmetic dentistry. The available cosmetic treatments of your teeth are teeth whitening, veneers, implants, crowns and shaping, bonding and orthodontic treatment. In order to determine which one will work the best in transforming your smile you have to consult your dentist.

Cosmetic Dentistry Options for Fixing Teeth Gaps

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009
Carl Grey recently asked:

If you have a gap in your teeth, you need not worry. These can be fixed by means of cosmetic dentistry. At this day and age, one cannot help but be amazed at what dentists can do. Armed with the right tools, these professionals can replace damaged tooth, whiten stained teeth, and eliminate nasty teeth gaps to name a few. One can only imagine the overall magic they can do with a person’s smile. But for this article, we will focus on the options on how to correct those unsightly spaces in between one’s teeth.

Porcelain Veneers

Veneers are customized porcelain facings that are glued over the front of one’s teeth. These are usually used to address dental issues regarding discolored and misshapen teeth as well as correction of uneven spaces. And unlike crowns, veneers generally do not require removal or extraction of the tooth itself.

For this particular cosmetic dentistry procedure, both the costs and materials vary. Typically, fees for porcelain veneers start at $900 and can reach up to $2000 for each tooth. But if your budget is restricted, you may opt for plastic or composite veneers. The plastic kind may not be as durable as porcelain but it sure is not going to burn a hole in your pocket—range is approximately $150 per tooth. For a plastic veneer that can last from 5 to 7 seven years, $150 a tooth is not that bad a deal.

Bonding

Have you seen a sculptor’s clay? Well, that is a good comparison for this cosmetic dentistry procedure. With the use of a dental composite resin (plastic), your dentist will be able to fill in gaps and fix broken or chipped tooth. Any inherent, minor flaw can be addressed employing such method. This is due to the reason that the resin filling will be placed all over one’s teeth: front and back.

So, whether your teeth are stained, crooked, decayed, or even if it shows gaps in between, this is an ideal option. Bonding is typically finished utilizing a specialized beam that hardens the resin. Then it will be polished to match the hue of the surrounding tooth enamel. As for the cost, it ranges from $100 to $600 for each tooth. Life expectancy for bonding is seven to eleven years.

Braces

This cosmetic dentistry will literally pull your teeth together, straighten them and pack them snuggly together. Remember the wires?

If you do not like the traditional braces, why not try the so-called invisible braces. Well, they are not really invisible, but they are clear and less noticeable. These braces are actually removable plastic trays, devoid of any wire or bracket.

Another is the ceramic braces or those tooth-colored braces. One more option is the lingual braces. In here, the metals are usually positioned behind one’s teeth. Not only are lingual braces expensive, but they sometimes interfere with one’s speaking.

As for the cost, this begins at around $5000. But before slamming the door at this cosmetic dentistry option, most orthodontists offer payment plans that will alleviate the burden of settling the entire amount all at once.

Filling the Void

Whatever alternative you choose, bear in mind that the size of the gap must be considered. Remember, bonding may not be appropriate if you have a huge void in between your teeth. With that said, it is of utmost importance that consultation be made with your cosmetic dentist before choosing any procedure or method.

Matching Smiles to Personalities and Creating Beautiful, Natural Smiles With Cosmetic Dentistry

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009
Jayden Adams recently asked:

Beverly Hills cosmetic dentist, Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, is dedicated to creating beautiful, natural smiles. “I had one patient come in with her gums bleeding, teeth cracked, missing and broken. In four weeks I made her a full mouth reconstruction. She was so elated. She sat there crying, saying ‘you’ve changed my life, you’ve saved my life.’ There’s nothing that would replace that kind of acknowledgment from a patient. That’s what I live for.”

We have all seen friends or co-workers with a mouth full of dental work and the teeth look unnatural; perhaps too big, too small or just the wrong style. Dr. Maddahi explains his methodology, “When I look at a patient, I am not just looking at their teeth. I am looking at their whole face, how to make that smile to match their personality, the symmetry of their face.”

This combination of art and dentistry has made Dr. Maddahi one of Los Angeles’ leading cosmetic dentists. Additionally, he is very interested in what his patients want, what they suggest and that they are most comfortable with. He uses state-of-the-art digital cosmetic imaging equipment that he and the patient consult to find the best new smile for them. This will display a computerized split image photograph of the patient’s smile. On the top half of the screen is the current smile and on the bottom is a digital simulation of the smile after the work has been completed, allowing an immediate decision on cosmetic dentistry to be done.

There are numerous choices for a patient who would like a smile makeover. Some simply need teeth whitening. Others might want a few new teeth to match the rest of their mouth. The choices are many, including porcelain veneers, porcelain crowns, teeth whitening, cosmetic implants, bridges, recontouring, composite bonding, porcelain inlays, porcelain onlays and dentures.

Dr. Maddahi’s office uses other high-tech equipment like a painless system that uses air instead of metal to drill teeth, for new decay on a tooth. Digital x-rays that cut down the time the patient is in the dental office. It takes three seconds for an X-ray image to transfer to the computer screen. Using digital X-rays the dentist has the ability to magnify, colorize, and alter the density of the image. He also uses IntraOral Cameras, which are small pen-shaped cameras that magnify every tooth and gum surface in the mouth.

“I’ve always enjoyed working with my hands,” Dr. Maddahi explains, “so dentistry was a natural career choice for me. And I’ve been focused from the beginning. When I started my formal education, I made a commitment to excellence and I continue that commitment today.”

Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, has been specializing in creating beautiful, natural smiles for 20 years and is located in Beverly Hills at 436 N. Roxbury Drive, Suite 202 and can be reached at 310-888-7797.

Cosmetic Dentistry – Redefining your Smile

Sunday, June 28th, 2009
Robert recently asked:

Cosmetic Dentistry is the field of dentistry dedicated to the art and science of enhancing a person’s smile and overall appearance, resulting in a better self-image and a sense of well-being.

If you are among the many people who limit your expressions of happiness because you worry about a less-than-perfect smile, you will be interested in learning more about cosmetic dentistry! Breakthroughs in technology have made a beautiful smile more affordable and attainable than ever before. Stars in Hollywood have long known that improving your smile can dramatically change your appearance, but today the benefits of cosmetic dentistry are being discovered by more and more people across the U.S. In addition to beautifying your smile, there are cosmetic dentistry procedures for the alignment and function of your teeth.

Cosmetic Dentistry can brighten dull teeth, whiten stained teeth, close gaps between teeth, repair chipped teeth, mask metal fillings, and straighten crooked teeth. It opens doors and removes obstacles to professional and social success.

Stained or dull teeth can be dramatically improved by in-office whitening, laser whitening, home whitening, veneers or bonding. The reason why many people choose cosmetic dentistry instead of over-the-counter products such as whitening toothpaste and bleaching kits is that cosmetic dentistry offers much better, longer-lasting results.

Misshapen, chipped, or worn teeth can be improved by veneers, bonding, or cosmetic contouring.

Gaps between teeth can be closed up with veneers, bonding, or orthodontics.

Old/unsightly fillings can be replaced with tooth-colored fillings (resins and porcelain) for a natural appearance.

Crooked or crowded teeth are improved with veneers, bonding, or orthodontics.

Missing tooth or teeth can be remedied with a fixed bridge or dental implant(s).

Excessive/uneven gums are often helped with gum grafts.

Combined Techniques are frequently used in smile design to create an ideal natural-looking smile. For example, bleaching may be followed with minor orthodontics and completed with porcelain veneers.

The first step to improving your smile is a visit to a cosmetic dentist. The initial consultation is often free and gives you an opportunity to discuss all your options and to look at before and after photographs of patients who have undergone similar treatment.

Cosmetic dentistry procedures are elective, and therefore not usually covered by insurers. However, the new technologies in this field have made it much more affordable today. When you meet with a cosmetic dentist, they will inform you about the cost of your treatment option(s) and the payment methods available to you. A good patient financing program can also help you by spreading out the cost into low monthly payments.

Getting the smile of your dreams is easier than you think with Cosmetic Dentistry.

How Does Cosmetic Dentistry Work?

Sunday, June 28th, 2009
Mary Logden recently asked:

are many people who are unhappy with their appearance in the world today. Some peoples’ teeth may have been unattractive for their entire lives, whereas others’ teeth may have aged and slowly become unattractive. For these reasons, many people decide to look into cosmetic dentistry. Cosmetic dentistry could be considered a dental facelift, changing someone’s appearance so that they look better and feel better about themselves. There are many techniques in cosmetic dentistry, from braces to porcelain veneers. More often than not, dentists use a combination of these techniques in order to achieve the best results.

The first method widely used in cosmetic dentistry is Porcelain Laminate Veneers (also known as veneers). These veneers are specially made porcelain wafers that can be places over teeth in order to enhance their appearance. Veneers can correct unappealing smiles, reverse the effects of aging, and whiten teeth. Many popular movie stars use veneers today in order to have that perfect smile. There are temporary and permanent veneers. People usually ware the temporary veneers while the permanent ones are being made. In terms of cost, veneers usually cost several thousand dollars, depending on the amount of teeth needing modification.

Teeth whitening is another very popular way to change the appearance of teeth. There are two types of whitening, in-office or at-home whitening. In-office whitening uses a high intensity light along with 35% hydrogen peroxide. The patient’s gums are protected, and the whitening process takes about an hour. The results are usually teeth that are four to six shades lighter than before. The at-home systems generally use between 10 and 20% carbamine peroxide. Impressions of the person’s mouth are made in order to make trays. The trays are then fitted and the patient is told to place a little bit of the carbamine peroxide gel in the tray and ware it while sleeping. The time of wearing this varies greatly from one week to six. Some people use a combination of in-office and at-home systems. This usually has a result of 12 to 15 shades of whitening.

There are three popular procedures to fix only a few unappealing teeth. The procedures for fixing select teeth are: tooth shaping, bonded-bridge, and resin or tooth colored fillings. Tooth shaping is when a doctor removes a very small amount of enamel from a tooth in order to shape it and make it more appealing. This is usually used for shortening long teeth, rounding off pointed teeth, or to simply make a smile follow the contour of the lower lip (which is more appealing). This procedure costs only $25 to $75 per tooth. The bonded-bridge procedure is used to replace missing teeth. The procedure usually involves taking out a small amount from teeth on either side of the missing tooth and then taking an impression or mold. From this, a bonded-bridge that can attach to the backs of the teeth on either side is made. There are resin-bonded bridges that do not fall out as easily, and there are metal bonded-bridges that are more expensive. Finally, people can get resin or tooth colored fillings. Resin is used to fill small cavities or a chipped front tooth. Resin instead of porcelain veneers saves money as well as time, but resin needs to be replaced every so often.

The final two things people can do in cosmetic dentistry are gum-lifts and braces. Gum-lifts remove gums in order to make teeth appear longer and eliminate a “gummy” smile. Uneven gum lines can make the teeth seem as though they are of different lengths that makes for an unattractive smile. The procedure is relatively quick and painless. Braces are the last, and most common, way to get cosmetic dentistry. Braces are placed on the teeth and can straighten crooked teeth, help fix over-bites, and generally create a more appealing smile. Braces are very time consuming, and costly, but are a great option for children. Some adults do get braces, but most opt for faster, cheaper methods. Braces run from $3,500 to $4,500, and require multiple visits to the orthodontist.

Cosmetic dentistry has been described as not a science but rather an art. Cosmetic dentists use many different procedures in order to improve their patients’ smiles and overall confidence. Some cosmetic dentistry procedures can be very costly, but yield great results. So, if someone has been unhappy with their smile for years, and does not know what to do, cosmetic dentistry may be the perfect option.
